Happy New 2012!

HAPPY NEW YEAR everyone!

Holidays have been going beautifully. We have had a STACK of earthquake aftershocks (six over 4.0 in a one hour period from about 5am on Jan 2nd!) but nothing (TOUCH WOOD) too damaging after the first biggish one on 23 December. A bit frightening in some cases, but again, nothing that we aren't that used to! I spent time with family, and we had some sterling weather over Christmas. It feels good to put last year behind us!

This is me swimming in the Ashley river. I like it because it looks like I have no legs. This is two days after Christmas! There are some benefits to summer!Christmas...

I have no New Years resolutions at this time. I think the biggest thing I learned last year was that the best laid plans of mice and men can go remarkably astray in the blink of an eye (I think there's some more mixed metaphors I can fit into there, let me see...). So I'm just going to try and be good and be accepting of the things that the universe gently tosses my way. Or throws, hard, on occasion!

I hope this year will be a happy and satisfying one for us all. Lots of love to you ALL.

Pretty sure you need to be holding a sword in that picture to complete the effect :). It's pretty awesome, actually, and that SUN!

Here's wishing you guys a STABLE, QUIET year down there.

Heee now I really want to photoshop one in! :)
And I hope you guys do up there. We keep having earthquakes and I keep thinking, at least it's not Wellington! Long may this continue!!

Sun was awesome! It's been cloudy now a few days but it's supposed to go nice tomorrow. In time for work, UGH. And at least we haven't had your epic rain.

Happy 2012 to you!

Today the sun was a bit fantastic - possibly a brief reprieve. We shall see (what, predict the weather? MADNESS!). I was in Hamilton just after Christmas (where it rained, naturally, and was muggy and disgusting otherwise) and came back here on the day of UBER-RAIN, plane wheels leaving a wake on the runway, and it took longer to get home from the airport on buses than it did to bloody fly between towns. Suckfest, that.

Aaaand, yes, I would quite like it if our big-ass fault remained placid.

Hurrah for 2012! It *has* to be better than 2011.

Happy new year, love!

I really cannot imagine what earthquakes are like. Sometimes I am very happy I live in Norway - we can't say we have stable weather, becase it shift constantly, but at least it's (usually) not extreme weather or nature-forces (Except this Christmas - when we had the strongest storm/hurrucane ever meassured in Norway, but it only brushed this area).

I can't imagine summer-Christmas! I mean, I obviously have a winter-Christmas, and all the Christmas pictures are so winter-y etc as well, it really goes well with how Christmas is for me. How is that done in a summer-Christmas land - are you playing the fake winter-christmas (in decorations etc)?

I remember a little girl's reaction the first time she celebrated Christmas in Norway after she and her family came back to Norway after living in Equador for 5 years (I think she was 1 when they moved there). Her reaction was that "it's not possible to celebrate Christmas in Norway, it's so cold here that we can't even change into our nice clothes!"

Here's to a good 2012!

Happy New Year to you, too! I'm rooting for a good one. And one with much less literal upheaval.

Good to hear that things have been okay with you, even if still shaky and scary. I hope they calm down soon.

Happy new year! May 2012 treat us all well.

And I love that picture. <3

Go on confess, you actually do NOT have legs and usually levitate everywhere.
Glad to hear that the aftershocks have not been too damaging and hope that continues to be the case - though obviously our first choice is that these tectonic plates just settle the hell down already.

I hope the coming year is good to you, and much less geologically exciting!

I also boggle at the picture of you in the river, because where I live, the rivers are arctic. All of them. Snowmelt-fed and arctic.

Which is to say, I haven't been that far into a river since I was a child. Ah, those days when we had no nerve-endings!

That river looks so gorgeous! Envy envy envy. I want to go swimming in a river, or a large creek, right now. Alas it is waaaaaaaaaaaay too cold for that.

Happy New Year! Am hoping that your ground stays where it's supposed to be from now on.
